Driftwood carving artwork, Heartwood series

These are some driftwood pieces i've been working on. I call this the 'heartwood' series. a bit of a pun on the center of trees termed 'heartwood'. 

The driftwood is very hard to carve so I had to keep it simple and keep the knives very sharp. Even with these precautions there is not very clean cuts. This matches the rustic look anyway and i'm happy with how they are turning out. It's a fun step away from my other carving work.

        Most of my wood is from the river in between brooklyn and manhattan or the hamptons.
